Trolls Compete at NCCAA National Championships
The Trolls were among a field of 24 schools that competed at the Choctaw Trails in Jackson, Mississippi for the NCCAA National Championships. The teams finished in the top half of their race and had two individuals earn All-American honors. The women took sixth place of 14 teams and the men were seventh of 17 schools.
There were many good performances for the women. Ashley Jourdan became an All-American with her sixth place finish of the 99 runners. She logged a time of 18:25.31 and was four seconds out of second place. Nicole Syverson and Hope Fathman finished under the 20 minute mark. Syverson was 31st overall at 19:44.22 and Fathman was 37th at 19:53.33.
Francesca Strolia was the team’s No. 4 runner in 55th place at 20:47.81. Andrea Sanchez was 64th with a time of 21:06.70. Finishing out the team was Amanda Jackson in 75th at 21:48.88 and Corrie Jacobi in 90th at 23:26.81.
The men’s team was led by Cody Velthuizen who took 11th place of 120 competitors and earned All-American honors. He crossed the line at 25:56.75. Keegan Fitzsimmons was in the top fourth of the field with a 30th place finish. His time was 27:09.49. Also under 28 minutes was Alex Clark at 27:29.84. He took 40th overall.
Finishing in the middle places for the team was Luke Boss in 56th place at 28:04.42 and Brantley Overloop in 66th place at 28:17.32. Kevin Courtney was in 83rd place overall with a time of 28:59.72 and Nick Heidinger came in 91st place at 29:20.09.
The meet ends the team competition for the Trolls. Jourdan and Velthuizen will compete in the NAIA National Championships on November 19.
