Trolls Compete in CCAC Championships

On a mild fall day and over a slightly soggy course, the Trolls competed in the CCAC Championships hosted by the University of St. Francis at Channahon Park.  Overall the women’s team finished in fifth place of the 13 CCAC teams. The men’s team ran in a field of 14 teams and took sixth place.  

The women’s team finished in a solid fifth place as they were 39 points out of fourth and 61 points ahead of the sixth place team. The team was led by Ashley Jourdan who finished in fourth place overall in the field of 134 runners. Jourdan crossed the finish line with a time of 18:53.3. She earned All-Conference honors and qualified for the NAIA national meet.

The next two runners for the women were within two seconds of each other and one place. Nicole Syverson ran a 20:18.4 and took 25th place overall and Hope Fathman was 26th at 20:20.4. Trinity’s No. 4 runner Francesca Strolia took 51st overall at 21:07.3 and also in the top half of competitors was Andrea Sanchez in 63rd at 21:22.8.

The men’s team took sixth place, but was only four points out of fourth.  Cody Velthuizen was the team’s top runner with a 17th place finish of 141 runners. He posted a time of 26:53.3. As one of the top individuals not on the first and second place teams, he becomes an individual NAIA national qualifier.

Keegan Fitzsimmons was the team’s next finisher at 29th place overall with a time of 27:43.9. The Trolls’ next four runners for the team all came in within 21 seconds and eight places of each other. Alex Clark logged a time of 28:44.5 for 52nd place overall. Brantley Van Overloop was 55th at 28:51.1 and two seconds back was Luke Boss in 57th at 28.53.3. Nick Heidinger was the team’s No. 6 person at 29:05.2 for 60th place.

The Trolls will continue post-season competition on November 12 at the NCCAA Championships in Jackson, Mississippi.
