Trolls Shine at Mt. Mercy
At the Mount Mercy University NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), both the women’s and men’s teams posted their best team times of the season. In a talented field of 25 NAIA schools, the women’s team took 8th place and the men were in the middle of the pack at 13.
A number of the runners on the women’s team had their personal best performances which helped tighten up the scoring from top to finish. Ashley Jourdan had another top 10 performance as she crossed the finish line in 6th place of the 215 runners. She finished with a time of 18:43.
Nicole Syverson logged a season best at 19:46 and place in 40th overall. Just out of the top 50 runners was Hope Fathman in 55th overall. Her season best time was 20:01. Trinity’s other two runners in their top five also had their top times of the season. Francesca Strolia ran a 20:35 for 87th place and Andrea Sanchez was 21:01 for 118th place.
The men’s team also had a couple of runners top their season best to help them achieve as a team. Cody Velthuizen was the team’s top runner at 26:07. He finished 22nd overall of the 244 runners. Keegan Fitzsimmons took 47th place overall and ran his season best at 26:41. A minute behind him was Luke Boss at 27:41 for 100th place. It was Boss’ season best.
The No. 4 and No. 5 runners for the Trolls were within 10 seconds of each other. Kyle VanderPlaats ran a 28:27 for 127th place and Alex Clark logged a 28:37 for 136th place.
The teams have completed their regular season and will compete next in the CCAC Championships on November 5.
