Trolls Fall to College of Ozarks

After playing the evening game the day before, the Trolls return to the field for a morning game at the NCCAA Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina.  In their third pool play contest, No. 6 Trinity took on No. 7 College of the Ozarks (Point Lookout, Missouri).  The game got away from the Trolls in the late innings as a 2-1 deficit after six innings ended in a 10-6 loss.  Trinity is now 0-3 in their pool with one game left to play.

The Trolls had runners on base in each of first three innings, but did not score until the fourth.  Trailing 2-0, Trinity had doubles by Josh Caceres and Austin Wood to score one run and get on the board.  Still down by one run the team had a great opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded. However they were not able to bring in a run.

Ozarks had five hits, including two doubles, in the seventh inning to add three more runs to extend their lead to 5-1. Trinity made a dent in that gap in the seventh inning with two runs on doubles by Will Kulcher and Brent Norkus to make it 5-3.

The top of the ninth was not friendly for the Trolls as they gave up five runs and fell behind 10-3. Trinity made some noise in the bottom half as they loaded the bases on a double by Sam Herzog and walks by Chris Baker and Alex Nisle.  Two of those runners scored when the next two batters were hit by a pitch. The Trolls brought in a third run when Wood put a ball in play to make it a 10-6 game.  The team left two runners stranded as the inning and the game ended.

Trinity had 11 hits for the game and Ozarks had 15. Nisle went 3-for-4 to lead the team.  Kulcher and Wood each had two RBI. John VanderWall pitched 6.2 innings and got the loss.

The Trolls will finish up their tournament play in the final game of their pool at 1 pm ET against Randall University (Moore, Oklahoma).
