Trolls Earn Post-Season CCAC Honors

At the conclusion of the regular season, the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its post-season awards.  On the list of players receiving All-Conference honors were six Trinity student-athletes.  Chris Baker, Jake Tholl, and Dan Vos were named to the First Team and Josh Caceres, Alex Nisle, and John VanderWall were Second Team.

Starting center fielder Chris Baker (South Holland, Illinois) earned First-Team honors as he leads the team with a .374 batting average and a .598 slugging percentage. For the season he has the most hits with 65, including 12 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs. The senior is a leader on the base path with 48 runs and 12 stolen bases. He ranks in the top 10 in the conference in batting average, hits, runs, home runs, total bases, walks, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Senior Jake Tholl (Tinley Park, Illinois) is a starter in the Trolls’ line-up as catcher or designated hitter. He received First-Team recognition as he ranks in the top 10 in the CCAC in hits, home runs, RBI, total bases, and slugging percentage. For the season he posts a .339 batting average with 61 hits. He has 12 doubles and is tied on the team for the most home runs with eight. Tholl leads the team and the conference and ranks 45th in the NAIA with 53 RBI.

Also on the First-Team list is sophomore Dan Vos (Orland Park, Illinois), a starting pitcher. This season he has thrown 57.2 innings and leads the team and the conference with a 2.18 ERA. In the NAIA , he ranks 17th in earned run average.  In his 12 appearances and nine starts he posts a 6-1 record and has one save. Vos leads the team and the conference with a total of 81 strike-outs for a 12.64 strike-out per game average.


With All-Conference Second-Team honors is Josh Caceres (Burbank, Illinois), a starter at second base or catcher. The junior has a .343 batting average for the season and leads the team with 19 doubles. He ranks in the top 30 in the NAIA in doubles average. He has also hit one triple and has four home runs for the year.  In addition he is third on the team with a total of 41 RBI.  In the CCAC, Caceres ranks in the top 10 in hits, doubles, RBI, and total bases.  

Senior Alex Nisle (Schererville, Indiana) received Second-Team honors as a starting third-baseman.  For the season he posts a .305 batting average and a .524 slugging percentage. He has a total of 57 hits and is tied for first on the team with eight home runs and second with 17 doubles. He is 41st in the NAIA in double average. In addition he has 52 RBI and has scored 45 runs. In the CCAC he is among the top 10 in runs, home runs, doubles, RBI, and total bases.  

John VanderWall (Orland Park) also was on the Second-Team list. The sophomore starting pitcher has a total of 62 innings on the mound with 10 starts in 14 appearances.  With his 8-3 record, he tops the team, is tied for first in the conference, and ranks 44th in the NAIA in wins. For the season VanderWall has a 3.48 ERA and has struck out 44 batters.  

In addition to the on-the-field honors, a number of athletes earned scholar-athlete recognition from the conference.  That list includes senior Nisle, juniors Sam Herzog (Hudsonville, Michigan), Brandon Riemersma (Zeeland, Michigan), Frank Romano (Elmhurst, Illinois), and Josh York (Zeeland, Michigan), and sophomores Zach Huisman (St. John, Indiana), Jared Smaga (Warrenville, Illinois), VanderWall, and Vos.
