Trinity Battles with the Tigers

Moving their home games to Bourbonnais, Illinois, Trinity faced Olivet Nazarene University in a double-header.  The Trolls came up just short of the win in the first game as they lose 3-2. The Trolls fell behind in the second game, but had one big inning in which they scored seven runs and took over the lead. The Tigers closed the gap to tie the score by the end of regulation. The teams played one extra inning without changing the score before the game was called due to darkness and ended in a 9-9 tie. The Trolls are now 22-15-1 overall and 13-7-1 in the CCAC.

The first run in the first game came in the third inning when Olivet Nazarene scored on a sacrifice fly.  The Tigers got a hold a home run in the third inning to score two more runs to take a 3-0 lead.  The Trolls did not have a hit in the first three innings, but recorded on double by Will Kulcher in the bottom of the fourth to score a run.

After the next two scoreless innings, the game came down to the final at bats. Olivet was three up and three down in the top of the inning. Trinity led off with another double by Kulcher, and one out later, he scored on a single by Austin Wood to close to within one run. However it was not enough as they ended the game with the 3-2 loss.

The Trolls had four hits for the game and Olivet Nazarene had seven. Kulcher led the team with two hits. John VanderWall was on the mound for six innings with the loss.

Trinity fell into a 4-0 deficit in the second game after two innings. They got on the board in the third with two runs on a home run by Jake Tholl, but the Tigers quickly gained those back in the fourth to make it 6-2.  The Trolls fell behind 7-2 in the sixth inning, but changed the game in the bottom of that inning when they added seven runs to go on top 9-7. The Trolls batted all the way through their order in the inning and had six hits, including two singles by Wood and a two-run single by Alex Nisle.

The Trolls could not hold the Tigers as they gained one in seventh and tied the game in the eighth with another run. Trinity had only one runner on base in the final three innings and the game went into an extra inning.

In the top of the tenth Olivet put one runner on base, but the Trolls caught him stealing. The Trolls registered two outs in the bottom of the tenth before they got one runner on base on a walk. However the next batter flew out to center field to end the inning. With darkness setting in the game was called.

For the game Trinity had nine hits and Olivet Nazarene had 15.  Tholl and Wood led the team with two hits each.  The Trolls had four pitchers in the game with no decision in the tied result.

The team is back in action on April 17 as they travelled to play Northern Illinois University.
