Trolls Defeat Crimson Wave

The Trolls made it a complete sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana) with a victory in a game at Oil City Stadium. Trinity took the lead in the first inning and led the entire game, but did not pull away until the late innings. The team scored seven runs in the final three innings and posted an 11-3 win. With the victory the team has extended their winning streak to eight games and is 22-14 overall and 13-6 in the CCAC.

Trinity opened the game with a run on a homer by lead-off batter Brandon Riemersma. The team held that 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when Liam Blake’s suicide squeeze scored one run and Chris Baker took a walk to bring in another for a 3-0 lead. A couple of fielding errors allowed the team to score one more run in the fifth inning to go ahead 4-0.

The game tightened up in the sixth inning when the Crimson Wave scored three runs. However Trinity quickly responded in the top of the seventh inning with three runs to make it 7-3. Alex Nisle started the inning with a home run and Blake hit a single that brought two across the plate.

Trinity added to their lead in the ninth inning with four more runs on four hits, including a double by Blake that scored two runners. The Trolls kept the Crimson Wave off the base path in the final two innings.

For the game the Trolls had 17 hits with Riemersma, Jake Tholl, Josh Caceres, and Blake each getting three. Blake tallied five RBI for the game. Mike McIntyre got the win on the mound.

The team plays next on April 16 at home in a 1 pm double-header with Olivet Nazarene University.
