Trolls Tame Tigers

The Trolls had a positive outing in a conference game at Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois). The team took over the lead in the second inning and held the Tigers scoreless through the first six innings. Midway through the seventh the Trolls were ahead at 7-0. Trinity’s offensive stayed active in the late innings with seven more runs in the final two innings to post the 14-4 win. The team is 21-14 overall and 12-6 in the CCAC.

The Trolls took the lead in the second inning in good fashion on a two-run homer by Austin Wood. They tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning to go ahead at 5-0. One of those runs was scored on a double by Josh Caceres, another came on a suicide squeeze by Ryan Stejskal, and a final on a single by Brandon Riemersma.

The offensive production kept going for the Trolls as they added one run in each the sixth and seventh innings for a 7-0 lead.

Trinity remained strong defensively and backed up eighth strike-outs by Dan Vos through the first six innings. The Trolls only allowed three runners on base in those innings. Olivet Nazarene finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runs.

The Trolls did not let up as they doubled their score in the final two innings. They scored four runs in the eighth inning and three in the ninth. The Tigers managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final score to 14-4.

Trinity ended the game with 10 hits and Olivet Nazarene had seven. Jake Tholl led the team with three hits and three RBI. Vos completed seven innings on the mound for the win. He gave up only two hits and posted 10 strike-outs.

The team is back in action on April 12 in a 1 pm game at Calumet College of St. Joseph.
