Trolls Defeat Trinity International

The Trolls started their three game series with Trinity International University (Deerfield, Illinois) with a victory in a single game at home. Trinity started off with big offensive production in the first inning to take the lead and they added to it as the game progressed.  By the game’s end the Trolls posted a 9-2 win.  These two teams will meet again tomorrow in a double-header.

The Trolls got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer by Jake Tholl.  Later in the inning Josh Caceres doubled to center field to drive in another run for a 3-0 start. The team kept the base path busy and went ahead 5-0 with two runs in the fourth inning.

The Trojans connected on four hits in the fifth inning to score one run to get on the board. They added three more hits in the sixth for one run to make it 5-2. Trinity got that run back in the bottom when Alex Nisle doubled to get on base and Will Kulcher singled to left field to bring him in.

Trinity put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with three more runs. They loaded the bases and scored on a single by Brandon Riemersma and sacrifice flies by Chris Baker and Tholl. When Trinity International failed to score in the final two innings the game ended at 9-2.

The Trolls had 13 hits for the game. They gave up 11 hits, but defensively held the Trojans to just two runs. Caceres led the team with three hits while Riemersma had two. Tholl had the game high three RBI. Dan Vos pitched through six innings for the win.

Trinity will play at Trinity International on April 6 in a 1 pm double-header.
