Trolls Lose to Titans

The Trolls hosted Indiana University-South Bend in a single nine inning conference game.  Trinity fell behind in the third inning and never caught up.  Trailing by three runs they made up a little ground in the seventh inning, but gave up runs in the final two innings for the 9-5 loss. The team is now 14-14 for the season and 6-6 in the conference.

After a quick first two innings, the scoring started in the third inning. The Titans connected on five hits in their at bat and scored four runs. Trinity got runners on base and took advantage an errant throw to bring two runners across the plate. With two hits in the inning they drove in one more to make it a 4-3 game.

The Titans scored one run in each the fourth and fifth innings to go ahead at 6-3. After loading the bases and failing to score in the fifth inning, the Trolls did not get on the board again until the seventh inning when a double by Alex Nisle drove in a run.

IU-South Bend scored in the top of the eighth to increase their lead to 7-4. The Trolls got that run back in the bottom half and threatened to score more. Austin Wood led off with a double and came home on a single by Sam Herzog. Two more runners joined Herzog on the base path before the inning was over.

With two runners on base and two outs in the top of the ninth, a costly throwing error allowed IU-South Bend to score two more runs and go ahead at 9-5. The Trolls were three up and three down in their final at bat.

The Trolls had six hits for the game and the Titans recorded 14. Each team committed three errors. Jake Tholl led the team with two hits while Chris Baker, Nisle, and Herzog each had RBIs. Pitcher Bryan Martinez started the game and got the loss.

The team is back in action on April 3 in a non-conference game with Lincoln Christian University at 3:30 pm.
