Trinity Falls to Saint Xavier

The Trolls and the Cougars of Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois) started their three game weekend series with a single game at Schaaf Field.  Trinity gave up three runs in the fourth inning and spent the rest of the game trying to catch up. The Trolls got one run in the eighth inning, but it ended in a 3-1 loss. The team is 13-12 for the season and 5-4 in the CCAC.

Both teams were fairly quiet on the base path through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth Saint Xavier put two runners on base and scored on a following double and single to make it 3-0.

The Trolls were not on the base path in the middle innings, but put runners on second and third in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning a double by Chris Baker drove one run across the plate to close the gap. The Trolls had a good opportunity to score in the ninth inning with bases loaded, but they left the runners stranded.

Trinity had six hits for the game and Saint Xavier had eight. The hits came from six different players with Baker posting the team’s RBI. Dan Vos threw for six innings for the loss.

The Trolls will play at Saint Xavier on Saturday, March 30, in a noon double-header.
