Trolls Share Results of Double-header

Trinity played host to Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) in a double-header to complete the conference three game series between these team.  In the first seven inning game the Trolls shut-out the Eagles with a 6-0. Trinity took the early lead in the second game, but could not hold on and took a 7-3 loss. The Trolls were 2-1 against the Eagles in the series to start their CCAC schedule and are 10-9 overall.

The first two runs for the Trolls were both scored off solo homers by Chris Baker as he put sent the ball over the left field fence in the first and third innings. Also in third Sam Herzog had a single RBI to give the team a 3-0 lead.  With Dan Vos on the mound, the Trolls allowed only one runner on base through the first four innings.

With two outs in the fifth inning, Ryan Skejskal doubled to bring a run across the plate.  Brandon Riemersma singled to get on base and Will Kulcher tripled to score the two runs that gave the Trolls a 6-0 lead. Robert Morris had two runners on base in the top of the sixth and one runner in the seventh, but did not threaten to score.

Trinity ended the game with 11 hits and Robert Morris had four. Baker had three hits and Stejskal had two. Vos pitched the complete seven innings with nine strike-outs for the win.

The Trolls got on the scoreboard in the second game in similar fashion as the previous game with a solo homer. This blast was hit by Josh Caceres in the second inning to make it 1-1. Trinity kept the base path busy in the third inning and behind three hits they scored two runs for a 3-1 lead.

The game took a turn in the fourth inning when the Trolls committed a couple of costly errors and gave up three hits which allowed Robert Morris to score five runs to take the lead. The Eagles got one more run off a double in the sixth inning to put the Trolls in a four run deficit at 7-3. The Trolls loaded the bases in both the fifth and ninth innings, but did not convert those runners into runs.

Trinity ended the game with nine hits and Robert Morris had seven.  Alex Nisle ended with three hits and Baker had two. Bryan Vanderlee was on the mound for 3.2 innings pitched for the loss.

The Trolls play again on Friday, March 22, at Judson University at 4 pm.
