Trolls Take One Against No. 17 Keiser

The Trolls’ Florida spring break trip ended in a double-header with No. 17 Keiser University (West Palm Beach, Florida). The team started out the day with a victory as they defeated the ranked Seahawks with a 7-4 final.  The second game was close, but the Trolls came up on run short with a 3-2 loss. The team ended their week in the RussMatt Invitational with a 3-5 record. They are 6-8 overall.

In the opening game of the double-header the Trolls took over in the middle innings. Breaking a 1-1 tie, the Trolls scored with three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings. With bases loaded in the fourth, the team scored on two walks and a wild pitch.  Two of the team’s three runs in the fifth inning came on a triple by pinch hitter Brent Norkus.

Keiser made a dent in the Trolls 7-1 lead in the top of the sixth when they scored three runs.  They had runners on second and third in the seventh, but Trinity held them for the win.

For the game the Trolls had seven hits with Josh Caceres and Alex Nisle each posting two. Christian Howell pitched the entire game for the win.

The Trolls took the early lead in the second game when a double by Jake Tholl scored one run. Keiser took over the top spot in the bottom of the third inning when a pair of doubles and one other hit gave them two runs. The Seahawks extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. Trinity started the sixth inning with a solo homer by Austin Wood to close to one run. They were not able to create any more offense and took the 3-2 loss.

Trinity ended the game with five hits from five different players. Bryan Vanderlee threw the six innings for the loss.

The team is scheduled to play Goshen College at home on March 11 in a 1 pm double-header.
