Trolls Receive Honors

Along with the success the team had with a CCAC Conference Tournament title and a bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round, many of the team members were also recognized with post-season honors. The Trolls had six players named to the CCAC All-Conference teams, six athletes on the NCCAA North Central All-Region Team, and eight players earn scholar-athlete recognition.

Leading the team with multiple honors was senior Tyler Sroczynski (Dyer, Indiana).  Not only was he named to the All-Conference First Team, but he earned the top honor as the CCAC Player of the Year. He also received the Player of the Year title for the NCCAA Region.  For the season the outfielder posts a .434 batting average and a .692 slugging percentage, which tops the conference list. He has a total of 86 hits of which 24 are doubles to lead the team, three are triples, and seven are home runs. Sroczynski set a new school season record and leads the CCAC with 41 stolen bases.  He also ranks first on the team and in the CCAC with 66 runs. He ranks in the top 10 in the NAIA in stolen bases, doubles, and total hits and is 13th in batting average.

Kyle Kolb (Roanoke, Illinois), a junior short stop, also earned All-Conference and NCCAA All-Region honors.  He leads the team and the conference with a .470 batting average and ranks fourth in the NAIA in that category.  He is also in the top 10 in the nation in total hits with 86 and first in the CCAC in hits per game. For the year he has 20 doubles, one triple, and four home runs for a .656 slugging percentage.  Kolb also posts 50 RBI and has scored 51 runs, which puts him in the top five in the CCAC.

Catcher Jake Tholl (Tinley Park, Illinois) is another member of the All-Conference and NCCAA All-Region teams. The junior posts a .366 batting average with 68 hits, including 18 doubles and seven home runs. He leads the team and the conference with 60 RBI. He also ranks in the top 10 in the CCAC in hits per game, doubles per game, and slugging percentage.

Sophomore second baseman Austin Wood (Bartonville, Illinois) is the company of Trolls on the All-Conference and NCCCA All-Region lists. For the season he records a .394 batting average with 66 hits, including 11 doubles, three triples, and three home runs. He has scored 31 runs and has 45 RBI.  He ranks in the top 10 in the conference in hits per game and in RBI.

With All-Conference Second Team and NCCAA All-Region honors is junior Chris Baker (South Holland, Illinois). The starting center fielder has a .355 batting average for the season. He has 70 hits of which 15 are doubles, four are triples, and seven are home runs. For the year he ranks second on the team and in the conference with 58 runs. He also has a total of 44 RBI.

On the pitching staff, freshman Dan Vos (Orland Park, Illinois) received All-Conference Second Team honors and senior Richard Yelnick (New Lenox, Illinois) was NCCAA All-Region. Vos has nine starts with a 55.1 innings pitched. He leads the team with a 2.77 ERA and posts a 4-2 record.  With 64 strike-outs he ranks second in the CCAC in strike-outs per game.  Yelnick has pitched the most innings on the team with 94.1 and has started in 15 games. For the year he has a 4.39 ERA and a 6-6 record. He has struck out 78 batters and ranks in the top 10 in the CCAC in strike-outs per game.

In addition to the on-the-field honors, a number of athletes earned scholar-athlete recognition. Sroczynski and senior Kyle VanKalker (Dyer, Indiana) will receive the honor at the NAIA , NCCAA, and CCAC levels. Joining them on the CCAC All-Academic Team will be juniors TJ Spyrnal (Oak Lawn, Illinois), and Luke Weston (East Dundee, Illinois), and sophomores Brandon Riemersma (Zeeland, Michigan), Sam Herzog (Hudsonville, Michigan), Josh York (Zeeland, Michigan), and John Roberts (Oak Lawn, Illinois).
