Trolls Take Down Top Seeded Judson

The Trolls keep their CCAC Tournament streak alive with another victory. In the third day of competition the team defeated the No. 1 seed Judson University (Elgin, Illinois) and advance to the championship game. Trinity scored all six of their runs in the fourth inning and posted a 6-1 win. The Trolls are the only undefeated team left in the double elimination tournament. They will play in the championship game on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 pm against an opponent yet to be determined.

Through the first four innings of the game the Trolls allowed Judson only two runners on base. Trinity took control in the bottom of the fourth inning with five hits, of which four were doubles, to score six runs. Alex Nisle started the inning with a double and scored error on the next play. With two runners on base, Luke Weston doubled to bring in a run. Kyle VanKalker followed with a single for one more run. Keeping the hitting streak going, Chris Baker doubled to right field to bring in the fourth run and that hit was immediately followed by a double by Tyler Sroczynski for the 6-0 lead.

Judson was more active on the base path in the final five innings, but only managed one run in the top of the sixth.

Dan Vos pitched through the first eight innings for the win. He gave up seven hits. John VanderWall finished the game. The Trolls had seven hits with Weston leading the team with two.

The championship game is set for 7:30 pm on May 8 with the “if necessary” game scheduled for 7 pm on May 9.
