Trolls Grab Two Wins Over Aquinas

A double-header against Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) produced two victories for the Trolls in their spring break trip in Florida. The Trolls scored in almost every inning of the first game and posted an 8-2 victory. In the second game the team had a four run fourth inning to go ahead 7-4. After seven innings they were ahead 7-5 for the victory. The team improves to 8-8 for the season.

The Trolls got on the board in the first inning when they loaded the bases and Tyler Sroczynski scored on a failed pick-off attempt.  Four hits in the second inning created three more runs for the 4-0 lead. The team added one run in each of the next three innings and by the end of the fifth had a 7-0 lead.

A RBI hit by Sroczynski in the top of the seventh gave the Trolls the 8-0 lead.  Aquinas got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the inning with two runs to make the final score 8-2.

The Trolls had 10 hits for the game with Sroczynski and Chris Baker each claiming three. Freshman Dan Vos was on the mound for 6.1 innings with 12 strike-outs and the win.

Aquinas struck first in the second game with two runs in the first inning, but the Trolls answered those two runs on a two-run homer by Sroczynski in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back doubles by Kyle Kolb and Jake Tholl in the third inning gave the Trolls one more run for a 3-2 lead.

In the fourth inning Aquinas regained the top spot with a two-run homer, but the Trolls did not let them keep it long as they scored four runs in the bottom half for a 7-4 lead. Three of the runs in that inning were scored off a home run by John Roberts.  Aquinas closed the gap in the fifth inning on a solo homer, but the Trolls held them in the final two innings to maintain their lead and take the win.

Trinity once again posted 10 hits with Tholl and Roberts each having two. Freshman John VanderWall got his first collegiate win on the mound and freshman Zach Huisman stepped in for the save.

The Trolls play Rochester College (MI) at 9:30 am EST and Trinity Baptist College (FL) at 1 pm EST on March 10.
