Trolls Drop Two Games to Cornerstone

A day after the Trolls posted two victories over Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, Michigan), the outcome was reversed with two losses in a double-header. The first game was a pitching duel that ended in 1-0 final. In the second game the Trolls took the early lead, but they gave up runs in the late innings for the 7-3 loss. The team is now 6-8 overall.

In the opening game of the double-header, The Trolls had runners on base in each inning, but could not get across the plate. In both the fourth and the sixth innings they threatened to score with runners on third base.

Cornerstone only had one runner on base through the first four innings. With two outs in the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles strung together three hits to score one run. It was that run that made the difference in the game.

For the game the each team had six hits. Kyle Kolb led the Trolls with two. Richard Yelnick pitched the entire game with eight strike-outs.

The Trolls scored early in the second game with one run in the first inning and two more in the third inning. In that third inning Morgan Nowitzki doubled to start things off. Hits by Chris Baker and Austin Wood followed to bring in one run and a sacrifice fly by Kolb drove in the second run. By the end of the inning the Trolls had a 3-1 lead.

Cornerstone took over the lead in the fifth inning when they scored three runs. They also added three in the sixth inning. After scoring in the third inning, the Trolls did not get on base again until the sixth inning when they had two hits. In the seventh inning they got one runner on base, but could not move him around. As a result they lost 7-3.

The Trolls ended with seven hits as did Cornerstone. Baker had two hits and Kolb led the team with two RBI. Kyle Doney had the loss with five innings pitched.

The team plays again on March 9 in a double-header with Aquinas College.
