Trolls Lose at Union

The Trolls opened their spring season at Union College (Barbourville, Kentucky). In the double-header on Friday Trinity lost the first game in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 8-7 final. The Trolls fell behind early in the second game and took a 13-2 loss. Saturday’s double-header was delayed because of weather and called off in the second inning of the first game. The team is now 4-2 for the season.

Trinity had a good start in the opening game of the weekend as they put three runs on the board in their first at bat. The Trolls kept Union off the scoreboard for the first three innings and after four they held a 4-2 lead.

A two-run homer by Jake Tholl in the 5th inning put the Trolls up 6-2, but Union had five hits for four runs in the bottom half to tie the game at 6-6. Trinity went back on top in the 6th inning on a triple by Kyle Kolb. They held that advantage until the bottom of the 7th inning when Union hit a walk-off two-run homer to hand the Trolls the 8-7 loss.

For the game the Trolls had nine hits of which Kolb claimed three while Tholl and Dan Budde each had two. Rory Gard was on the mound the final inning for the loss.

The second game got away from the Trolls in the early innings as Union scored 10 runs in the first three innings to take a 10-0 lead. Trinity did not get on the board until the 5th inning when Tholl doubled for the RBI.

After giving up runs in the 5th and 6th innings the Trolls trailed 13-1 as they headed into the 7th.  A solo homer Chris Baker gave Trinity one more run to create the 13-2 final.

Trinity had five hits for the game while giving up 12. Tholl led the team with two hits. Kyle Doney threw the first two innings and got the loss.

The Trolls will play again on March 2-3 in double-headers at Columbia College in Missouri.
