Trinity Wins in Opening Double-header

The 2017-18 baseball season officially began in a double-header at Lincoln Christian University (Lincoln, IL). The Trolls got off to a good start with wins in both games of the day. They took the first game with an 8-5 win and then ran away with the second game in a 18-3 victory.

The opening game of the day was a 1-1 affair until the 4th inning when the Trolls took the lead for good. The inning started with a home run by Alex Nisle to score one of the three runs in the inning for a 4-1 lead.  Nisle followed with a triple in the next inning which led to two more runs for a 6-1 lead.

Lincoln Christian closed the gap with three runs in the bottom of the 6th, but the Trolls answered with two runs in the top of the 7th to increase the scoring difference. The Red Lions added a final run in the bottom half, but could not keep the game alive.

For the game the Trolls had 10 hits or which Nisle had a double, triple, and home run.  Dan Budde and Tyler Sroczynski each recorded two hits. Richard Yelnick was on the mound for the win and Bryan Vanderlee got the save.

The second game started off with a home run by Sroczynski and the Trolls never looked back. After two innings the team had 10-1 lead. The team continued to find hits and by the end of four the score was 13-1.

A triple by Sroczynski in the 6th added one more run for the Trolls and a homer by Budde in the 7th gave the Trolls their 18 run total.  Lincoln Christian finished their final at bat with two runs to bring the final score to 18-3.

The Trolls had a total of 20 hits for the game with 11 players registering hits. Sroczynski had three hits with a double, triple, and home run. Kyle Kolb also had three hits. Christian Howell pitched for five innings for the win.

The Trolls will play again this fall on October 6 at home in a double-header with Roosevelt University at 1pm.
