Trolls End Season at Olivet Nazarene

The Trolls played their final games of the season at Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois) in a conference double-header. Both games had late inning action, but Trinity came up short in both contests. The team rallied in the final inning of the first game, but ended with a 4-3 loss. They held the lead throughout the second game until Olivet Nazarene took over in the 8th inning to give the Trolls an 8-6 loss. The Trolls end their season with a 22-27 overall record and a 10-17 CCAC record.

Olivet Nazarene jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings in the first game. After those initial innings the Trolls held the Tigers to only four more runners through the next four innings.

Trinity first got on the board in the 5th inning when Zack Jones doubled to bring in a run. The team rallied in the top of the 7th inning, when with one runner on base, TJ Spyrnal hit his first collegiate home run to bring the team to within one at 4-3. When the team could not get another run across the plate the game ended.

The Trolls had six hits for the game and Olivet Nazarene had seven. Chris Riemersma led the team with two hits. Bryan Vanderlee pitched through five innings for the loss.

In the second game Trinity took the top spot early with five hits and three runs in the 1st inning. In the 5th they added another two runs on a double by Kyle VanKalker and a single by Spyrnal. The Trolls kept the Tigers quiet in the first six innings and limited them to only four hits.

Olivet started their comeback in the 7th inning with three runs on two hits and an error to make it 5-3. They had a five runs in the 8th inning on four hits and another Troll error to take over the lead at 8-5. The Trolls rallied in their final at bat to get one more run. Tyler Scrozynski singled to get on base and scored on a single by Riemersma. The team had runners on first and second when the inning ended.

The team had a total of 12 hits. Riemersma had three, Sroczynski, Stefano Belmonte, and VanKalker each had two. VanKalker and Spyrnal each had two RBI.  Jones stepped on the mound for the 8th inning and got the loss.

The games concluded the team’s season as they will not advance to post-season play.
