Trinity Drops Games at IU-South Bend

The Trolls lost ground in the conference standings with two losses at Indiana University-South Bend (South Bend, Indiana).  In the first game Trinity made a couple of comebacks, but gave up five runs in the sixth inning to end with a 9-4 loss. The Trolls rallied late in the second game to close the scoring gap only to come up one run short of extending the game. They took a 6-5 loss. With the losses the team is 20-24 overall and 8-14 in the CCAC and falls below IU-South Bend in the conference standings

The runs came in pairs in a large portion of the first game. IU-South Bend scored two runs in the 1st inning, but a double by Austin Wood and a fielding error by the Titans allowed the Trolls to score two in the 2nd inning. The Titans added two more in the 4th inning to regain the lead. Trinity answered those runs in the top of the 6th when a double by Stefano Belmonte scored two runs to make it 4-4.

The game changed in the bottom of the 6th when IU-South Bend kept the base path busy and scored five runs. Trinity could not recover in their final at bat and took the loss.

The Trolls had five hits for the game with Wood claiming two and Belmonte leading with two RBI. The Titans had 10 hits and also capitalized on four Trinity errors. Richard Yelnick pitched through 5.2 innings for the loss.

In the second game IU-South Bend took a 2-0 lead on unearned runs after three innings. The Trolls first got on the board in the 5th inning with a run and tied the game in the 6th inning with another run. The tie did not last long as the Titans added two runs in each the 6th and 7th innings to make it a 6-2 game.

In the 8th inning the Trolls started a comeback as Zack Jones led off with a homer. Then with bases loaded Wood took a walk to bring in another run. With two outs in the 9th inning Belmonte doubled and scored on an error to bring the team to within one. However the final out of the inning came before the Trolls could get another run.

For the game each team had nine hits. The Trolls committed three errors and the Titans had two. Belmonte led the team with three hits and Jones had two. Bryan Vanderlee was on the mound for the loss.
