Trolls Defeated by Titans

The three-game conference series with Indiana University-South Bend (South Bend, Indiana) started with a loss for the Trolls in a single nine inning home game.  There were multiple hits by both teams, but Trinity did not capitalize on their opportunities as much as IU-South Bend did. The Trolls trailed the entire game and ended in a 13-7 loss. The team is now 20-22 overall and 8-12 in the CCAC.

It was not a good start for the Trolls as they gave up three runs in the 1st inning and another three in the 3rd inning to fall into a 6-0 deficit. Trinity rallied in the bottom of the 3rd when, with two outs, Zack Jones and Stefano Belmonte hit back-to-back doubles and Alec Barnhart followed with a home run to put three runs on the board. The Trolls were not finished and with a couple of more hits they brought in one more run to close the gap to 6-4.

Trinity immediately lost their momentum in the top of the 4th when they gave up a three-run homer to increase the scoring difference to five runs. After a couple of quiet innings the Trolls rallied again in the 6th with three runs. Two of those runs were scored on a Barnhart double.  The Titans squelched the comeback in the top of the 7th when they scored four to increase their lead to 13-7. Trinity got a few runners on base in the remaining innings, but did not score.

Each team had 14 hits for the game. Austin Wood recorded three hits for the Trolls and Jones, Belmonte, Barnhart, Chris Riemersma, and Dan Budde each had two. Barnhart led the team with four RBIs. The pitching loss went to Tanner Reklaitis who threw the first four innings.

The Trolls and the Titans will play in a double-header on April 22 at Indiana University-South Bend in a 4 pm EST start.
