Trolls Lose in Conference Opener

The Trolls started their conference schedule on the road at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa). Both games of the double-header ended in one run losses. The Trolls fell 4-3 in the first seven inning game and then lost 2-1 in the second nine inning contest. The team is now 12-12 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC.

In the first game the Trolls had a good start and scored twice in the 1st inning. Both runs came across the plate on a triple to right center by Blake Kerzich. The team held that 2-0 lead until the bottom of the 3rd inning when, on one hit and one error, St. Ambrose scored four runs to go on top.

The Trolls threatened in the 5th inning with bases loaded, but did not score. They gained one run in the 6th inning on an Austin Wood single. Trailing 4-3, the Trolls got one runner on base in the top of the 7th to start the inning, but the next three batters recorded outs.

The Trolls ended the game with seven hits of which Kerzich had two. St. Ambrose had four hits. Tanner Reklaitis was on the mound for the loss.

To start the second game, Trinity once again struck in the 1st inning. Zack Jones doubled and Kerzich came through with a single to bring in the run. For the next five innings the Trolls were very quiet on the base path with only one runner in those innings.

St. Ambrose first got on the board in the 3rd inning when two hits produced one run. They started their 6th inning at bat with three straight hits to get one more run to give them a 2-0 lead.

The Trolls did not seriously threaten again until their final at bat in the 9th inning. They had runners on the corners, but could not score before the inning ended.

Trinity had five hits for the game and St. Ambrose had eight. The team’s five hits came from five different batters. Tayler LaFlamme pitched for the first five innings for the loss.

The Trolls play next on March 29 at Judson University in a 4 pm double-header.
