Trolls and Cougars Split Results

For the second day in a row the Trolls hosted the Cougars of Spring Arbor University (Spring Arbor, Michigan) in a double-header.  Trinity came out on top of the first game with a 7-5 victory, but could not make it a clean sweep for the weekend as they lost 10-8 in the second game. The Trolls finish the four games with a 3-1 record against the Cougars and are now 5-3 for the season.

In the opening game the Trolls established the lead in the first inning when they scored five runs to make it 5-1. The team brought those runs across the plate on four hits, including a double by Zack Jones.

The Cougars made the game interesting in the top of the 6th when they scored three runs on four hits to pull to within one at 6-5. The Trolls came back with a run in the bottom half and held the Cougars in the seventh to finish with the 7-5 victory.

Trinity ended the game with six hits of which three came from Stefano Belmonte. Kyle Doney was on the mound for the win and Jones stepped in for the save.

Trinity once again had a five run 1st inning in the second game to take the early lead. On a home run by Luke Weston in the 3rd inning they scored two more runs to go ahead 7-0.
 
The Trolls struggled in the top of the 4th inning and gave up six runs. By the end of the inning the score was tied 7-7. Heading into the seventh inning the teams were in an 8-8 deadlock. Spring Arbor got a man on base and then sent one over the fence for two runs and a 10-8 lead. The Trolls could not answer and were three up and three down in the bottom.

For the game Trinity had eight hits and Spring Arbor had five. Weston and Chris Riemersma each had two hits and three RBI. Kyle VanKalker also had two hits. Stefano Belmonte threw the final two innings for the loss.

The Trolls will host Goshen College in a noon double-header on April 22.
