Trolls Take Two Against Trojans

The Trolls got their first two wins of the 2016-17 baseball season in a double-header with Trinity International University (Deerfield, Illinois). The team secured an 8-2 win in the first game with some late inning runs. In the second game they scored early and held their lead for an 8-1 victory. The team will take their 2-2 record from their fall schedule into their spring season.

In the first game the Trolls took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they scored two runs off a single by Alec Barnhart and a double by Luke Weston. Those runs put the Trolls ahead at 3-2. That score held until the sixth inning when the Trolls had four hits, including home runs by Tyler Sroczynski and Stefano Belmonte, to tack on five runs. The team held the Trojans in the top of the 7th and came away with the 8-2 win.

Each team had a total of nine hits in the game. Sroczynski and Belmonte led the team with two each. Bryan Vanderlee was on the mound for the complete game and the win.

Trinity scored early in the second game with one run in the 1st inning and five in the 2nd to jump to a 6-0 lead.  In that 2nd inning Dan Budde and Belmonte each doubled, Barnhart had a two RBI single, and Weston brought two across the plate on a home run.

The Trolls increased their lead in the 6th inning with four hits and two runs. With bases loaded Belmonte doubled to drive in the two runs. Trinity continued to hold the Trojans until the 7th inning when they gave up one run for the 8-1 final.

The Trolls had a total of 13 hits for the game. Belmonte recorded three of those hits with four RBI. Scrozynski also had three hits and Barnhart had two. Clay DeHaan picked for 6.1 innings for the win.
