A victory still eludes the women’s basketball team as they made their fifth attempt in a home game against Indiana University-Northwest (Gary, Indiana). Throughout the game the Trolls were close, but they could not get on the top of the scoring. With the 54-62 loss they are 0-5 for the start of their season.
The Trolls had a slow offense start as they did not hit double digit scoring for the first 12 minutes of the game. By that time they trailed by 12 points, 22-10. The team continued to fight and by the half they had the deficit cut to just three, 33-36.
In the second period the team did what they could to make up the difference, but the RedHawks were able to ward off any of the Trolls’ efforts. Playing around foul trouble did not help the Trolls’ cause. In the final five minutes of the game they did not give up a field goal as the RedHawks only scored from the line. Trinity was within five points, 54-59, with 31 seconds to play, but did not convert the needed baskets in the remaining time.
For the game Trinity shot 31.1% from the field, 35.0% from the arc, and 6.43% from the line. Tiffany Deckinga had a double double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Jennifer Brink was also in double digit scoring with 14 points. Shakyia Vassar ended the game with 9 points and 5 assists.
The Trolls will play next on Tuesday, November 17, at Goshen College (IN) at 7 pm EST.
